4 tools to make a tough job easier

Have a field you’d like to run through, but it’s full of overgrown brush? Clearing land for new construction, lawn expansion, or simply making it look nicer can be a daunting task. The more land, the more weeds, overgrown bushes, and sappy trees to deal with. Having the right lot clearing equipment can make this task a lot easier, and maybe even a little fun.

Lot Clearing Equipment

Any of the following four tools can make quick work of clearing lots. While having all four is not necessary, depending on what you’re trying to clear, it’s possible to rent this equipment or purchase if you’ll need to clear more areas on a regular basis.

  1. Brush mower. The big daddy of lawn mowers, a brush mower is designed to be more durable than a regular mower in order to clear overgrown land. It can chop through three-inch-thick saplings, tough weeds, and thorny bushes. Like a lawn mower, it comes in a self-propelled model that you walk behind, or you can get one to tow behind a tractor for larger fields and meadows.
  2. Brush Grubber. Uproot saplings in a snap with this tool featuring spiky, metal jaws that dig into a small tree or stump for removal. Attach a chain to the other end and use a truck, ATV, or tractor to pull the plant out by its roots. The harder you pull, the harder the jaws grip the tree.
  3. String Trimmers. Upgrade your weed whacker for more heavy duty cleaning. Add bigger blades that can take down woody brush up to 3/8″ thick. Other blades can easily cut through saplings as thick as three inches. Determine what needs to be cut before picking up these more powerful accessories.
  4. Stump Grinder. If you’re removing larger trees or already have stumps around the property, the quickest, easiest way to get rid of them is to grind them up. Then you’ll be left with clean, level land for your next project.
